Yoga Therapy Australia
YOGA THERAPY AUSTRALIA was formed with the intention of facilitating the the provision of specialised and highly practical training in yoga therapy for yoga teachers from all traditions; to raise awareness of yoga therapy as a healing modality; and to encourage people to take responsibility for their own well-being.
Yoga Therapy Australia joins with Dr Chandrasekaran MBBS, Founder
of Viniyoga Healing Foundation of India, and Director of our Therapist
Training Program, and Saraswathi Vasudevan, Founder of Yoga Vahini,
to provide yoga therapy training of the highest standards and to present
yoga in its purest form.
Dr N. Chandrasekaran MBBS (Dr NC), Viniyoga Healing Foundation of India
Dr
N.C. has been a practising allopathic medical physician for almost thirty
years and completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga in 1990.
From 1991 he acted as a consultant-teacher, and from 2001 held the position
of Director of Therapy at an internationally renowned institute of yoga
in Chennai. In that capacity he conducted consultations with more
than 10,000 students with a wide range of health problems, designing
a personal practice for each of them. He has taught in many teacher
training and continuing education programs as well as training numerous
senior yoga teachers in the field of yoga therapy. His experience in
medicine and in the yogic healing process enables him to present an
effective blend of the western medical system with eastern traditional
wisdom, helping people with a wide range of health problems.
Dr N.C. is the founder of the Viniyoga Healing Foundation of India (VHF) and he is on the Council of Advisors to the Australian Association of Yoga Therapists (AAYT).
Mr.A.F. Lara Abiesheikh, Viniyoga Healing Foundation of India
Mr.A.F. Lara Abiesheikh is an exponent of yoga, having practised
the entire array of asanas and pranayama techniques since the age of
fourteen. Initially, he learnt with Sri Kausthub Desikachar at the
Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, where he continued to teach for
nearly eight years. His quest for perfection propelled him to
further seek guidance from other senior and popular teachers in the
field of Yoga. His unflinching vigour and steady commitment has made
him the embodiment of excellence in asana postures, prana kriya and
pranayama. His dedication to practice has earned him the rare
distinction of modeling for reputed yoga books of international
standard. In fact, his mastery of the techniques of pranayama is
such that he can voluntarily stop his own heart beat (pulse) for
more than 20 seconds.
Having made steady progress towards mastering various postures and understanding the nuances of the effect of the postures on the body and mind, he started devising course planning for several categories like Group, Individual, Special Need, Children, etc. The assiduous learner that he is, he has perfected the art of course planning in a short span.
Mr.
Lara has conducted quite a number of workshops on asana practice for
international students. His mastery in devising the practice session
has earned him a lot of accolades from a wide spectrum of his
students. His therapeutic application of yoga is testimony to his
keen understanding and appreciation of modifications and adaptations
of the techniques of yoga. Mr. Lara has successfully healed several
people with complicated and severe conditions like sciatica and
other back problems who were bedridden and not able to walk.
Mr. Lara strongly believes that dissemination of knowledge is the best way to serve the society. His strong desire to pass on his appreciation of asana study is truly unmatched.
Saraswathi Vasudevan, YogaVahini
Saraswathi
has two Masters Degrees (in Nutrition and Psychology) from the University
of Madras, Chennai, and for over 16 years was a yoga teacher, teacher-trainer,
therapist, consultant and head of the research department at an internationally
renowned institute of yoga in Chennai. She has conducted
workshops around the world and recently founded
YogaVahini with
the aim of making the healing wisdom of Yoga more accessible to everyone.
Saraswathi is passionate about yoga therapy and is naturally gifted
at establishing deep, nurturing connections with her students to facilitate
empowerment and inner healing.
Leanne Davis, Gap Yoga
Leanne
Davis is a senior yoga teacher, having taught yoga since completing
the Sivananda Vedanta Yoga Academy training in India in 1988. She is
one of the Queensland State Representatives for Yoga Australia, an
accredited yoga teacher and teacher trainer with the Krishnamacharya
Healing and Yoga Foundation, and a registered Yoga Therapist with
Australian Asociation of Yoga Therapists (AAYT).
Leanne has worked in complementary medicine since 1983 studying and practising bodywork, herbal medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. She has a Bachelor of Health Science in Acupuncture and practices Traditional Chinese Medicine alongside her work with Yoga.
Leanne is keen to advance the quality and recognition of the traditional principles of yoga teaching and yoga therapy in Australia so that it may be utilised in the community as a system of physical and mental health care.
Carine Lo Presti
Carine Lo Presti
has been practicing yoga for the past decade, teaching for the last 7 years, is a KHYF accredited teacher and
a principal of the Yoga Garden. She has taught classes and seminars for the Yoga Institute's teacher
training programs, as well as acting as a mentor for many Yoga Institute students. Carine has a special
interest in yoga philosophy and chanting.
