Foundation Series 1:
APPLYING ASANA, PRANAYAMA AND MEDITATION IN YOGA THERAPY
Dr N Chandrasekaran MBBS (Dr NC) and Saraswathi Vasudevan
3 day Workshop
Sydney, NSW: Sat 20 – Mon 22 November 2010
The focus of the Viniyoga Foundations courses is to create a platform of understanding that is beneficial in itself but is also the fundamental foundation for the therapeutic application of yoga. This is the first of a series of four workshops to be offered in Australia over a period of 18 months to 2 years. It will deal with the therapeutic application of asana, pranayama and meditation.
Viniyoga is not a style of yoga but is a personalised approach to yoga. It utilizes the tools of yoga to meet the student where he or she is, and encourages evolution toward the objectives and needs of the individual. It is also essential underpinning knowledge of yoga therapy.
The presenters of this course are two of the most experienced yoga therapists teaching today. Dr NC has been a practising western medical doctor for almost 30 years and has been a yoga teacher/consultant for the past 20 years. From 2001 until 2009 he held the position of Director of Therapy at the Krisnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) in Chennai before establishing the Viniyoga Healing Foundation of India. He has prescribed over 10,000 personal practices for students with an astounding array of health conditions. He is on the Council of Advisors to the Australian Association of Yoga Therapists (AAYT).
Saraswathi Vasudevan has Masters Degrees in Nutrition and Psychology and has been a yoga teacher/consultant for the past 16 years. She was head of the Research Department at the KYM before founding YogaVahini. Saraswathi and Dr NC share the aim of making the healing wisdom of Yoga more accessible for everyone.
This workshop is suitable for all committed practitioners and teachers of yoga, of all traditions. It is strongly recommended for everyone who desires to deepen their understanding of the application of yoga in the therapeutic context.
Please note: Attendance at all four Foundations Series workshops will meet the prerequisite requirements for future AAYT accredited VHF Therapist Training Courses. However, the pre-requisite content will not be covered before the May 2011 Therapist Training commences. If you are intending to undertake the 2011 Therapist Training please ensure you register for the November Foundations Residential at Ballina or contact us to discuss your situation.
